Teaching
in three graduate programs, School Psychology and Special Education at Brooklyn
College, and at the Ph.D. program in
Urban Education - CUNY Graduate Center, I try to engage my students
in the active questioning and re-envisioning of urban schools. I am
interested in the processes that create opportunities and risks for
children, and the roles that professionals and disciplines play in
constructing school cultures. These areas of scholarship bridge my
interests in psychology and education, and in identity and school culture. My
writing focuses on testing, placements, and other educational paths
constructed for children who are vulnerable in schools and society, i.e.:
children who are classified as disabled, members of ethnic minorities, and
immigrants. My recent publications include:
Rethinking
Multicultural Education: Case Studies in Cultural Transition,
co-edited with Carol Korn (Bergin & Garvey, 2002), http://www.greenwood.com/catalog/G871.aspx
Teaching
Teachers: Building a Quality School of Urban Education,

Special Education (Praeger Books, 2007) http://www.greenwood.com/catalog/GR3262.aspx
